Inclusive Anatomy: An Ongoing Conversation on Representation

Abstract:
Join us to examine how terminology influences our understanding of reproductive anatomy, discuss the importance of using language and images that include people of color in depicting diseases and conditions, and highlight the necessity of using anatomical models and illustrations that reflect our diverse societies. Resources to implement these concepts in the classroom will also be shared.

2024 Speaker Bio:
Omonse Talton, PhD

 

Dr. Talton is an Assistant Professor in the Biology Department at the University of Detroit Mercy. Her teaching expertise is in Cell Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology and her research explores placental development and how various maternal conditions, such as diabetes and obesity, affect offspring health.
